This is my other cruiser. The single speed sportster. This Mid 80s Miyata 310 ten speed conversion was built for speed, and born of necessity. My Schwinn cruiser was not fast enough for trips across town so I set out to find something faster. I was at a local bike mechanic's house when I saw a bike he had put together that had touring bike sensibility, and a coaster brake. I immediately asked him to please build me one just like it. He gave me an amazing deal on what you see in the first of the smaller photos minus the saddle that I already had.

You'll also notice that it's sitting on 26 inch cruiser wheels with 26x1.25 slicks. I removed the brake cable braze-ons after one of the too long crank arms hit the ground while I was turning, and my thigh hit the top tube brake cable loops leaving a blood blistered bruise. It could have been worse. Despite how cool it is to have no tape on your bars I decided to put some black cork on mine.

I found the sweet coaster brake wheels set at NYC bikes after my front wheel got tweeked. I had no idea anyone made 700c wheels with a coaster brake hub, but they are awesome. I stayed with the original theme and put the biggest touring tires I could find on them. They are Michelin TransWorld City 700x35c. The bike is great. Most people who don't know better think it's a fixie, but that's not what I wanted. It's just a coincidence that the bike I built to go fast on resembles a track bike.

Looks awesome with the red rims! I grew up on a coaster brake bike, I love 'em. ENJOY!

Thanks! Your bikes look awesome too.
