She's not just a looker, this girl is my first build and she can go at one hell of a pace a well as chew up hills. I've been used to riding a 531 tubed bike so the 501 tubing, although a little heavier has been a massive comfort to my backside.

501, 531, and ride

Beautiful bike, glad you're enjoying it.

501 was a pretty good tubing. I was surprised how light my 501 Trek turned out. The common thicknesses were .9/.6/.9, while 531 was usually .8/.5/.8. If all else is equal, a thinner tubing should give a springier ride, so I'm a little surprised your backside prefers the 501 bike. But not too surprised. If the 531 bike is just 531 in the main tubes, with lower grade fork and stays to save costs, it could be less springy. Older mid-range 531 frames might be straight guage, not butted. Also the geometry has an influence on the ride.

Finally, the tires, rims, and saddle probably have much more effect on ride than the frame.

yeah the 531 is a cheapy!

Yeah you're probably right my 531 is a cheap peugot and the forks look like they're replacements. I've since ridden my friend's 501 tubed bob jackson and the buttake it gave me was chronic! so I'll put the comfort of this ride down to the parts.
