Just Bought this for my girlfriend been trying to find others like it and to me it's looking like a one of a kind build. If anyone has any info would love to here about it. Pantographed Alpina on seat stays.

Biopace

For a beginner, biopace is much easier to ride. So I wouldn't recommend replacing them. And to my eye, those pedals go well with the bike!

Nice bike - Depending on how much your 'missus' cares about all this, consider to get her a saddle for girls, swap those pedals and put on slightly beefier tires. These 105 parts are not bad at all, only the pedals are a real disgrace, believe me.

P.S.: If you can get hold of a 'round' set of chainwheels for a good price, consider that as well.

What's wrong with biopace?

bp and pd

The pedals -unlike the rest, which I really like- don't look nor feel good, are heavy as hell, have lousy bearings, a hex key cannot be used with them, and I never understood them in the first place - it seems as if some weird kind of 80s set of cleats was meant to be used with them. At the end of the day, I got a pair with a label from 'specialized', till the right one was finally ground up after 20 years and several crashes.

Biopace is reinvented every 20 years, and rightly forgotten about soon after. Even 'beginners' should pedal smoothly, and I am -with the benefit of hindsight- not so sure, why oval chainwheels should be beneficial for them. As a kid, I was lured into buying these exact Shimano 105 cranks -with biopace- and regretted not having opted for round chainwheels with a better look and feel for years - Does that count ? :D

Assuming you're joking, but

Assuming you're joking, but in case you're not, there were cleats that went with those pedals ;)
