I just put this together, really wanted to remake the first frame I ever built using standard tubing sizes and a fastback seat stay. Really happy with the result, the new columbus sl is light and stiff. Had a gipiemme track group laying around which I thought would be a great compliment to an Italian steel frame.

Awesome looking frame. Not a fan of those handlebars though.

I don't blame you, I rode

I don't blame you, I rode them for a week and switched them out for some cinelli crit bars, I don't like the deep drop on true track bars

Great Skill

A jig must have been hard to come by. By any chance, did you utilize a more temporary jig? Either way, your frames look great. Cult is sweet too.

Thanks! I lucked out on a Bringheli frame jig, which I know many people complain about, but it just takes a few more measurements to get things set. I only tack in the jig. I learned that a jig just gives you confidence in a straight build. I have built frames using angles and c-clamps and honestly think that a jig is an unnecessary investment if you build one frame at a time. I have always been inspired by builders who take the time to focus on each and every build, and not worry about time constraints, but rather a quality product.

oh and thanks on the cult as well, bmx was a passion that I have slowly let go

Insight

Thanks for sharing your insight on frame building. I know very little on the subject. It is a skill that I admire though. Now that you do less bmx, you'll have more time for other things like frame building. Definitely a lot less injuries.

You hit the nail on the head, as I go older it was getting harder and harder to get out of bed. Bmx has definitely helped influence me as far a frame building goes, and I am thankful for all my memories riding.

I think it came out

I think it came out beautifully, and the build is top notch too! I personally would have incorporated a drilled fork crown and bridge for some single speed action!

Thanks

Thanks, the brakes would be fun for sure. I built my girlfriend one which is drilled for coasting.

what do you mean by « new

what do you mean by « new sl » ?
NOS tubeset or ... new ?

columbus sl

The original version of sl was drawn from 9/6/9, the current run of columbus sl is drawn from 8/5/8, so its a bit lighter. My basso track frame, which is the 9/6/9 stuff, seems no more stiff than this frame, though I believe the cranks have something to do with that as well.
