A Beauty

Especially noticed the drilled rear derailleur cage.
Excellent chrome lugs, too.

More history - if you can stand it

In punishment for opposing Franco and the Fascistas the Basques were not permitted to engage in any sport that would encourage their own nationalism, e.g. soccer. Since cycling wasn't “verbotten” the Basques put their renowned engineering talents towards the manufacture thereof. Perhaps it is their fierce independence (along with trade barriers and liberal copyright laws) that made them decide to make everything – frames to hex-nuts. Granted they did stand on the shoulders of Campy every so often but Zeus eventually achieved what you see here - one of the finest and most original bicycles ever made. I truly lament their passing.

Fantastic!

Amazing work.

Wtf?

Hey man, I know your collection rocks, but how the trunk did you come up with this? Cinelli's, bianchi's, gios are not uncommon in collectors' stables, but this Zeus! Please let me know where this one comes from except from Spain and how you managed such a condition. Do I sound jealous already? I got a thing for Zeus, even if it's a campy knock-off made under Franco. Well, maybe because of that as well... A friend of mine has an old Zieleman with a complete Zeus group, except for the crank. And I'm planning to assasinate him for it ;)

Zeus freaks...

...like my buddy Decobug will give you an earful for calling 'em Campy knockoffs. Truth be told, some parts were copied at first from Campagnolo but then were all improved by greater use of titanium, drillium and smart decisions (smaller crankset BCD allowing more gearing options). Campagnolo then started reverse copying certain details like improved Ti work, Decobug has told me.

Also, Zeus was born out of heavy Spanish tariff laws making Campy prohibitively expensive.

All told, the stuff rocks. Someday I'll have a nice 53cm with full 2000 group. Someday.

Great collection BlueDevil.

History!

I love history lessons, and out of zeus parts there's a lot of history to be learned. So I guess I love Zeus as well.
Btw Decobug has that Zeus pista: HOLY [email protected]! Combined with blue devil's Zeus... They should make babies!

Haha yes, I did much of the

Haha yes, I did much of the restoration on that Pista. Came out sick! I'm waiting for him to get his Zeus Strada together so they can start breedin' in the bike shop.

This was an unbelievable

This was an unbelievable eBay find. There were only a few bidders and I got it for what I considered a very reasonable price. It was pretty grimy but I had to do relatively little really to get it looking like it does. I bought it from a Spanish gentleman in L.A. I assume he brought it over from Spain or bought it special as a bike from his homeland.

I bought a set of NOS Zeus 2001 sidepulls to replace the ones on the bike which had rashed levers and trashed hoods. It had no head badge decal so I got a reproduction. I found the Arius saddle to replace the Avocet it came with. Oh and bar tape and cables. Everything else was just cleaned up and serviced.

I absolutely love this bike. It was clearly the very top of the line and the Reynolds 531 Superlight tubeset is pretty rare and cool.

That's cool!

It just had to be from someone from spain! You did a good job getting it and finishing it
Cheers

jesus

stop already....
