Campagnolo Chorus

Here it is, a glorious Craigslist find. I owe my friend eBaumann a big debt of gratitude for helping me get this, and thanks to Indians44987 for the saddle.

Stripped and rebuilt as a mountain goat with Campagnolo Record/Chorus 8-speed stuff. I added the Athena 11 speed compact crankset for steep grades, and have a Chorus Titanium seatpost waiting in a box.

The plan is to swap out the somewhat hefty Open Pros for a super light (1260g) custom wheelset: Kinlin XR200 rims laced to Superlight hubs with Sapim CX-ray spokes. I'm no weight weenie of course, but this will definitely save about a pound where it really counts. I plan to use this for Mountains of Misery next year, so the wheels are a must.

beautiful

good thing that you left the monoplaner brakes on!! Great bike

Simply Beautiful.

Simply Beautiful.

Exceptional.

Another great build.

Nice as usual

Very nicely done for you specific purpose. Really cool frame (love the HT logo) and points for fact you wont see one riding by while heading up ye olde Mountains of Misery course. Why THIS bike for that event, though? Love to hear more. I've actually slowly but surely been heading down the new bike quagmire after some time in France this summer riding all sorts of options combined with my last four months cycling in an IF SSR and a Colnago Oval Master 6-4Ti. It's been an interesting time. Good to see you moving about again.

climber

Thanks. To answer your question, it has a long top tube and laid back seat tube - nice touring/climbing geometry - so I tend to stay seated longer on climbs. Very comfy.

Last year I used my Litespeed for Mts of Misery which was fantastic but....boring. Was jealous of my buddy on his Daccordi 50th anniversary / Record 8 build. I vowed to build a vintage mountain goat after that, with some select changes for function (titanium where I could sneak it in, and the modern light wheels).

Lovely build...

I like the fact that you built this bike up to ride, and not some reverential museum restoration. By the way, how did you get these photos? Got some tips? Enjoy the ride

Thanks!

Well...a 9' backdrop, two 600k photo floods, a Nikon DSLR, and about 45 minutes of Photoshop!

Very Sharp

It's amazing what can be found on Craigslist. No nonsense build.

The original build was

The original build was Chorus 9 speed with some pretty ratty bar tape. I'd been assembling this group for a while so once I got the frame I knew where to put it!

Gruppo

is very practical yet sexy.

Another fantastic addition

Another fantastic addition to a flawless collection! Everything is great, very admirable, even, dare I add, amongst a gaggle of De Rosa's. Only thing I'll point out is the bars should have been drilled closer to the stem clamp. Is it custom or came that way? It's a trifle of course. Wouldn't matter climbing, only riding the flats. Look-type pedals for climbing? What can I really add? Simply killing it bro!

drilled?

Thanks for the comments. The bars aren't drilled though. The cables are running in the rolled grooves of the bar, which end a little earlier than usual. I milled slots on my silver De Rosa but not this one. I've refined the leather pattern to scoot the exit points closer to the stem next time, but I don't really feel the cables or anything when on the flats.

Also, yep, I use a set of red Look Keos on this puppy.

Oh yea I see the cables

Oh yea I see the cables under the wrap now.

Very nice

Great saddle too!

drool...

That is friggin awesome!! It's MY size!! I want it, would you like to sell the frame? Looks amazing!
