tandemainia

The Vintage Bike Doc: I am not a tandem person but that's nice. My wife doesn't ride and I'm too old for a girlfriend (can't run fast enough) :-0. 40lbs doesn't sound bad for the bike.

Great looking tandem

Great looking (Made in the USA!) tandem and I love KHS's use of the oversized True Temper tubing. Bombproof wheels! I have a spare set of stoker horn bars that I never got around to mounting on my late 1970's Rodriguez Tandem before I sold it. Send me a PM if you are interested. Your frame is really stretched out in back compared to the Rodriguez. Do you have enough stoker seatpost length to use a suspension seatpost? I had a cheap UNO alloy one on the Rodriguez but it worked out very well. Once it was put on I only needed to call out the worst bumps or potholes.

What rack are you using to transport this with? I used a Thule 558P Pivoting Tandem Carrier for mine that will attach directly to Thule square load bars, Inno crossbars or Yakima round cross bars. It has a unique pivoting fork mount design that enables easy one person tandem loading and unloading. This carrier also works equally well with recumbent bikes and with the back extension removed it can be used for any single bike.

Well, The tubing is usa

Well, The tubing is usa made, but the tandem has a giant "Made in Taiwan" sticker on it. When I was looking at the cl posting, I wasn't expecting a boom tube as big as this, its kinda a relief. I Think I have a set of horns sitting around somewhere, and If i don't I'll probably order a cheap set of Origin8s or Suns from work, but thanks for the offer. I haven't taken it out with my girlfriend yet, but I'm sure I'll have enough room. I have a rockshox post I can use, at least for her. I took it on a 15 mile ride this afternoon with a friend, and we had the seatpost at close to dangerous levels.

I plan on getting a yakima sidewinder for the Yakima rack on my '83 civic. This one swings too, but it cannot be used with a single bike. This rack will be best for me because a tray any longer than the single bike trays I had would not let me open my hatch.

I just noticed you had one

I just noticed you had one for sale a few months ago, darn it!

Four!

You can have four water bottles at a time! Too bad I'll never have someone to ride a tandem with... Sigh. Can you give a guesstimate as to how much it weighs?

I got about 40lbs using a

I got about 40lbs using a bathroom scale. I also took the rear rack off.

Congrats Veggie!

Looking forward to watching what you do with this tandem. Those wheels are dreamy. Thanks for sharin' your route to finding this and now on to what you'll do with'er!

Thank you. I plan on

Thank you. I plan on documenting everything I do. The wheels were what sold me on it, otherwise I probably wouldn't have bought a tandem with sora shifters. True temper tubing!
