I had enjoyed another Dave Moulton bike the last two seasons(a 54cm Recherche), so when I found this frame last summer, I had my local framebuilder cut the frame in two for me. I tried to get replacement decals from Velocals last winter, but they never came thru. Fortunately Dave Moulton had just started making decals again, so I was ale to buy a set. It's not the same quality as the original, though, but for a travel bike that most likely will inevitably get scratched & scraped, I'm not too concerned. Unfortunately the downtube decals got flipped, but what the heck, I wasn't going to send it back now.
So the bike finally came together this weekend as I had a few hours of free time to complete the assemly and today took her out for a 40 mile check ride. There were no surprises, and the ride was very similar to the Recherche frame I ride also built by Dave Moulton. I have it configured here with 12-32 cassette will use climbing 10,000 ft+ passes this summer, but I swap 12-25s for my regular rides. I'm liking the Brooks bar tape, and the Nitto R-14 Top Rack wasn't too hard to install. I will be using SPD pedals as well on my summer tour & will probably use this on RAGBRAI as well. The group is a mix of Record (triple crank & headset) Chorus (brakes, levers), Comp Triple (front & rear derailleurs), Nuovo Record seatpost, Cinelli XA stem & Cinelli Giro d'Italia bars, Swift saddle, Record hubs with Open Pro 32h rims.
