This was my mixed-mode commuter for a couple of years (bike + train + bike). Now it is collecting dust, it is a great folding machine, however as a bike it is like riding a wet spaghetti. What I really like about it is the 3 speed sturmey archer which eventually, it is my intention, will end up in another, better bike.

well built?

I don't know about that. I managed to break the frame. The welding on one of the arms failed. See this picture:

But then again, maybe it was those damn speed bumps. I remember sometimes becoming airborne and landing with the two wheels simultaneously.
Otherwise it used to be a lot of fun to ride, however now I worry all the time, when will it brake again? what other part will fail? Will I be thrown out in front of the cars?

not to make light of your situation but I watched some guys doing tricks on folding bikes on YouTube. Those bikes were getting thrashed!
