Finally rebuilt the bike for my father with some old components from his old bike and some new components (e.g. Ergopower levers).
The shifing is so called shim-ergo or shimagnolo: 10-speed ergopower levers have the same cable pull as Shimano 8-speed shifters, so in combination with shimano rear derailleur it can shift an 8-speed Shimano-spaced cassette.
