Everyone is going to have their own opinions but I think this bike is just awesome the way it is. I would love to find a set of those 8 speed DA shifters.

Nice Merckx. The only really glaring thing is the STEM;
the original style quill stem would do wonders for that
beast. And while not my saddle choice or bartape for
that matter, it's a LOVELY ride and very nicely done on
all other levels. VERY nice. Just fix your images with
some unique names that wont be thought up by some other
drummel with a hat on backwards.

Yeah I agree with the stem.

Yeah I about the stem. Unfortunately this is a 1 inch threadless fork.

well that

works out perfectly then, right? just get it threaded, new headset and stem tadda!

Yeah, it's a lot easier said

Yeah, it's a lot easier said then done. It's a risky practice, not to mention not a financially worthy endeavor at the moment.

How's it "risky"?

How's it "risky"?

well, treading a thtreadless

well, treading a thtreadless steerer is risky due to the possibility of fucking it up and not threading it straight

Plus'd give up a fair amount of stiffness-to-weight up front if you did that. Why don't you get a slimmer stem? You might be able to find a threadless one with no face plate. I think salsa might make them.
Edit: check out Nitto CT-80

most of the ones coming up are linking to pics of different bikes.

A lovely build. Nicely done and shows that older bikesare much coler than modern ones.
Well done!!

check the stem...

...and the BF story. it's a new school re-issue. not that it's not super pretty, but it's definitely not an old bike.

Absolutely stunning!

Beautiful build. My jealousy know no bounds...
