I dragged this out of a cat lover's basement last summer and did a full restoration. The original paint was still good under the fur and dirt. Mostly original components, with a few replacement parts. Rebuilt the wheels with DT swiss spokes. Sold to a rider in Toronto in November.

Lovely Professional!

Beautiful De Rosa with a nice restoration while leaving the original paint. Well-done, though would have loved to see this with a period Concor or Unicanitor. Quality photos, too! In 84, it's still actually officially called the De Rosa Professional, though many would use the Super Prestige tag from the TT sticker associating this bike to the Super Prestige Pernod trophy that Merckx won in 73-75. This slightly later geometry is one of my all-time favorite rides with perfect blend of handling, balance, and power. Too bad you couldn't keep it though I suspect it was too large.

ah, so

Interesting. I always thought the professional was a different model with slightly different geometry and often more chrome (Eddy hated chrome, right?) Anyway, thanks for the info. And yes, I ride a 53, i.e. the red one I've posted - this was just a for-fun project.

I'd say there were probably just as many Professionals made without chrome then with. Ironically, to my knowledge, De Rosa never actually called any of their models "Super Prestige" though they started adding this decal to frames in the later 70s. I've seen the Super Prestige decal on a few '78 frames up until 86. They were still using the name "Professional" until at least 86 with the Professional SLX. The geometry of their main road frame has stayed relatively consistent since the late 70s to mid-80s and a bit beyond. De Rosa never did serial numbers and it's tough to narrow down dates with decals since they cross over years. One has to look at things like the pressed vs investment cast lugs, chain stay bridge and to some extent, decals among other things. Hilary Stone was working on a De Rosa Timeline but that's dedicated to pre investment cast lug samples.

A classic beauty

Love this one. Superb look.
