This is my Cannondale Caad3 Silk road frame. I bought the frame on ebay and then built the bike around it. It is a very smooth ride and suites me well. For me it is a definite upgrade from any other bikes I have owned. I had to do some work as the headshok forks were 1 1/2 inch and the carbon fiber forks are 1 1/8. (steerer tube) The colors came out very well and I hope everyone likes it.

Very nicely built. These are definately not a common frameset, but I love the way they ride. Switch off the suspension for hills and sprints, turn it on for gravel, washboard or just crappy roads. Everything a CAAD3 is plus. Love the color. I was watching this one on eBay also.

Thanx for the compliments. The bike rides very well and the colors always turn heads around here. Most bikes you see around here are stock looking. As for the head tube modification, the cost was sixty dollars. This included the bike shop ordering the parts, removing old cups, prep and install adapters and headset. I still have the matching headshok forks. May sell if anyone is interested. Oh, and to Ruffinit thanx for not outbidding me on this one.

You can thank my wife for that one. She said that I didn't need a second one. Check your messages.

Glad you got this posted!

Hey Fatmama,
I was reading through this page the other day (without pictures) and was curious what it looked like and glad to see it! Is this functioning as a Tri/TT bike for you?
I'm curious with the removed headshot, does your top-tube sit level? (I can't tell from the photos) And how exactly did you fanagle the steerer tube / headset difference?
I love the color. Thanks for sharing!

caad3 steerer tube

I ride to stay in shape. I am a diabetic. The bike functions for me but I don't see myself in a race or anything. It is very light weight and fast. 25mph easy. As for the steerer tube I had to remove the old cups and replace them with adapters. Then I had the token headset installed. The adapter sits flush with the top and bottom of the head tube unlike the cups. Then the token headset just fit right in. The top tube has a slight downward angle which actually seems to work better for me. Seems to help with my forward positioning when I get into the tri bars. I can send or post closeup pics of the headtube / headset assembly.

Lookin forward to pics

Sounds similar to mine which is a '97. The Silk Road fork steerer tube is actually 1.5 inch. Check out www.vintagecannondale.com for specifics.

Hey I'm new to the site but I finally got some pics posted. This was a budget build but I fee like it came out ok. The owner at the local bike shop loved it.
