Bike was in pretty bad shape when I got it. Replaced the crappy semi-broken stainless Normandy wheels on it with these, probably deserves a nicer matching wheelset though. Meh. The components are very well used and a little worn but still run like a swiss watch. Went with red tape/housing, dunno what to say about that really, I like it.

Now sold and being used as the girlfriend bike it was supposed to be. :)

Top of the line in '83

That bike must've been around 00 back in '83. I can't believe the cable through the top tube! I don't remember anything like that back then. Very unique and innovative for the time!

Red housing

I've just picked a red '85 979, I will also go with red housing, my problem at the moment is getting the old housing out of the top tube guide. when I pull them the ali guides move too. Any advise?
Yours is a sweet looking bike btw.

Hey, thanks! Regarding the

Hey, thanks!

Regarding the housing there's more to it than what meets the eye; actually the housing is two parts and only the wire goes through the guide inside the tube. My alu guide also moved a little, but you should be able to pull the old housing right out as there is only a 1-1.5cm end going in there on each side. The old housing may be a little stuck; try heating it up with a blowdryer or so and you should be able to get it out. Hope that made sense.

Red Housing

Cheers on the housing, it turns out as you said the housing only goes a little way into the frame. Mines red too now, will post pics soon.

.

Very nice, love the red tape and outers!

Please let us know the number you get. Thanks!

Lift the saddle and give the left pedal a half turn spin, then count the number of the turns you will have before a complete stop; please let us know the number you get.

I got a 70' or 80's bike and the number was 170. That's perhaps a main reason why I always like old bikes. I tested a lot new bikes in the store this way they are all somewhere between 15 to 120, even for brand names such as Trek, Giant, or Norco.

I trust that could be the reason why other people here also like the old bikes but they may never notice this hidden difference.

This comment above still wins the award as the most bizarre on a number of levels.

Agreed.

This is a crazy metric. The Half Turn Count the Spins Unit aka the HTCSU.
