I purchased this bike on eBay with a mix of Shimano 600 and Ultegra, with Sora shifters. I ended up purchasing a Dura-Ace 7700 grouppo separately, but the right side shifter jammed and well... now I have a Dura-Ace 7700 paper weight. Seeing how much the shifters alone costs, paired up with the fact that Shimano STI shifters are known to fail often, I decided to go for the "Shimergo" setup. Paring 10-speed Campagnolo shifters with a Shimano 8/9 speed drivetrain.

Swooped on a pair of carbon Campagnolo Centaur shifters and it works great.

How is the shifting,

How is the shifting, compared to the sora or 7700 shifters? Anything you had to do besides rerouting of the cable?

Sora was crap. 7700 was

7700 was good.
Campy comparable to the 7700 shifters.

All you have to do is re-route the cable through the rear derailleur.

Have a few of these GT steel bikes, two early 94 1st year frames out of excel tubing, one from 97 out of 853 and one NOS 99 National team frame.
Have one in Ti and a couple in aluminum as well. Split most of my riding time between a 57 steel and the 58 Ti. Sweet rides!

This is a sweet set-up!

As far as the Sora shifters, they are just as functional as any other Shimano shifters. Compared to the higher end groups, they are rather clunky with a rougher action. Also, the black thumb levers, like on Campagnolo shifters are, in my opinion, a poorer design than those of the nicer Shimano and SRAM shifters, in which they can be shifted from the drops, whereas a reach to the thumb dealey-os is kinda far.

Im not a roadie, but this looks very well put together. I love a nice triple triangle!

sora shifters

What don't you like about the Sora shifters? i was thinking of getting a pair for my road bike

I just don't like them.

I just don't like them. Personal preference, I guess.
