I call this one the frankenclubman project. It kinda ended up as an unintentional tribute to Sheldon and all the vintage bike porn on RetroRaleighs.com. A true rat, built of various pieces from various years made by various manufacturers with a lot of custom tweaks. Most notably, the fenders are 1962 Raleigh 26" narrowed and stretched to fit Schwinn S6 27" wheels with custom brackets to adapt standard Bluemel quick release fender hardware. Red paint is original with clear lacquer. Cream paint is an industrial coating with clear lacquer. Head tube and rear dropouts have been done in gun bluing with clear lacquer. I wanted a vintage look and I think I got it.

[update] I finally took it for a spin! It rides nice tho with the 52t ring down hill ends up nicer than up hill even with the 3spd. ...its heavier than my Volvo wagon.

75 Raleigh Grand Prix

Nice job !!! Inspires me to go retro.

Love the contrast

The contrast of the red with white fenders on the white with red frame is exceptional. I think you'd lose a lot of pazzaz if you painted them white. Nice job, great idea with the 3 speed.. I just came across an internal 5 speed and you've given me an idea for it.

awsome! I dig the fenders

awsome! I dig the fenders alot

Frankenclubman lives!

Very sharp. Love the headlight...a very nice touch. A fine homage.

A promising start! You're

A promising start!

You're keeping the Sturmey-Archer, right? I look forward to seeing progress pics and a final bike!

AW3

Yep, keeping the 3spd as is.

Just painted the frame last night. Gonna assemble it asap and determine if the fenders, head lugs and fork crown need work or if they look good as is. ...also not sure if the fenders are gonna stay red or if they're going off white with red or black pin striping.

Go for it!

Great project.
