original brakes??

Are you sure about the originality of the brakes? They look like Universal 68's which were introduced in 1968, generally an upgrade from the Mod. 61 centerpulls, from, go figure, 1961. I don't know what the original brakes on this would have been, but in 1953, I don't think there were any Universal sidepulls made.

Please let me know if you find out different!

The brake are Universal Mod.

The brake are Universal Mod. 51 and are indeed 100% original and perfectly correct for the 50's. The Mod. 68 brake calipers are indeed a very close copy. Universal made alloy side-pulls from the 30's onwards.

Looks like it can use a good cleaning, some polishing :)

Very cool then, that is a beautiful bike!!

Don't polish

It's worth more if you don't polish it!!!!!! Very classy. Looks a lot like my 1948 Berga, except i'm running Cambio Corsa!

What a gorgeous bike. I

What a gorgeous bike. I love both the components and color scheme.
