Just joined recently trying to learn a bit about what fixed to buy for my first bike. There are so many options and numbers and names its hard to know what's what. For example I'm looking at this bike but have no idea if 550 is a fair price:
quattro assi team 2000 frame
truvativ gxp track crankset w/52T shimano ring
sram gxp bottom bracket
fresh kmc z chain
black deep v rear wheel laced with DT spokes to white ind. ENO fixed/free hub
17T DA cog n lock ring
ultegra front hub laced w/DT to Mavic open pro and spinergy swewer
fresh continental rear and maxxis front tire
aheadset threasless 1 1/8 headset
chopped nito risers and deda(?) 120mm stem
carbon 27.2 post and used fizik saddle
love some help on this matter. I've been a bike rider my whole life and I've always felt like I could discern crap from cool but I'm having a really hard time with finding the right fixie.
thx -

I'm doing my research and now I'm finding out that Aluminum goes to poop after a couple years. Am i buying a bike that will crack on me the minute I jump a curb? Now I'm thinking a steel frame would be better but I love the radical geometry of the quattro. -

I just crashed a 1992 aluminum frame. It's not often you get to test something to destruction. In the crash, I was literally ridden over by another rider. No welds broke. Tubes were crushed and still didn't lose integrity.
Aluminum fatigue is a real metalurgical phenomenon, but on a bike with a normal lifespan, I don't think it's a real thing. -

Mercier Kilo TT from bikesdirect.com

The components that come on the bike are kinda shitty but being a first timer, they will be fine. The frame has decent tubing and even though it is made in taiwan, it's pretty good quality for what you need. As you progress, just start swapping parts out with better parts and you will be golden son.
Good luck.
