Clusters are groups of bikes

Anyone can create a cluster - a group of bikes. Cluster some hybrid bikes, pursuit bikes, red bikes, blue bikes, big bikes, short bikes, chopper bikes, bikes from your city, bikes you love, bikes you want, bikes you want to crash, anything! This is a list of all the clusters on velospace. If you are logged in you can manage your clusters here.

Note: abandoned clusters (created but empty) will be pruned now and then.
All Clusters
  • MTB Drop Bar Conversions, by cyclingfool on August 11, 2014 (18 bikes): "Road drops, dirt drops, bar end shifters, STI, single speed? It's all good. This cluster is for mountain bike frames that have been converted from flat bar/riser bar to a drop bar set up, be it for off road fun in the dirt or primarily for commuting and touring like mine. I have an especially soft spot in my heart for 1980s and 1990s all rigid 26" wheeled MTB frames that have been converted. Bonus points for racks/fenders and other utility/touring accessories! ;) I'll add some as I find them, but if you've got a bike matching this description, let me know, and I'll gladly add it!"

Licensing several patents - welding techniques and frame building ideas from Klein Bicycle Corp(Gary Klein was MIT graduate who was the first to produce a light weight aluminum oversize tubing for bicycle frames) the Schwinn PDG Aluminum was born! PDG (Paramount Design Group) was the high end Schwinn race engineering and design division in charge of those amazing racing frames that made Schwinn and Paramount famous for decades and PDG was put in charge of making designing these glorious works of art (at least to me). Side note: Some of the original Paramount Design Group are still around today, they are now known as Waterford Bicycle Company - http://waterfordbikes.com/ and it's still associated with the Schwinn family) Even if the original Schwinn bicycle name is not owned, operated or even associated with the Schwinn family, at least these aluminum speed demons live on via Facebook, or here on Velospace, and thankfully in the hands of caring owners! If you have any of these "cool" and "unique" bicycles please come and share pictures, stories, and the "love"!"

  • Peugeots Ateliers Course, by Zephyrus on October 30, 2010 (11 bikes): "Peugeot created its own in-house custom racing bike and frame building division 'Ateliers Course' in 1974, the same year that Raleigh did it with the SBDU (Specialist Bicycle Development Unit). The Ateliers Course was separated from the main factory at Valentigney / Beaulieu , France. The model designation PY was adopted for this machines (Modells named "Super Compétition" and "Prestige Peugeot"). In addition to building the Peugeot cycling team's bikes, they offered standard race frames (CFX-10 / 531) and off-the shelf machines, including a limited edition of Tour de France champion Bernard Thevenet's PY-10 CP, to the French and European market as well as completely custom made framesets with a wide choice of components featuring the Spidel Group (Simplex, Stronglight, Mafac and Maillard). Framesets were available in 531 (531), 531 Extra Legere (531 EL/SL) and 753 tubing with choice of geometry and colours. Depending on the frame tubing or components, the PY could be available in the following varients PY-10 CP (1977-1980) PY-10 EC (1978-1979) PY-10 FC (1983-1986) (Carbon Fibre) PY-10 LC (1980) PY-10 LCP (1979) PY-10 P (1988) PY-10 S (1981-1983) PRO-10(1982-1985) PY-14 (1982-1983) The Top End Modell in 1979 & 80 was the PY-10 LCP/LC (Légère Course Professionel) "Super Compétition", which was build completly with 531 EL (5/10 or 3/10) tubes. In all the other years the PY-10 CP (Course Professionelle) was the top-end model with main tubes 531 Extra Legere or 753 tubing (only 1980-82). The PY-10 was rebranded in 1982 as the PRO-10 which proved to be the last model built by the "Ateliers Course" Division. The "Ateliers Course" shop was closed c. 1982 and the remaining PY models (e.g. PY10- FC) were factory made complete bikes. Compare; M.Kolin, Denise de la Rosa "The Custom Bicycle" 1979: Cycles Peugeot's bicycle production at Beaulieu can be divided into three categories. The first is called total mass production - only one size is available in each model. All of these frames are automatically brazed on electrically charged brazing machines. Racing-style bicycles are all hand-brazed by specially trained craftsmen. This area is a kind of semi-mass production operation. Everything in this area is hand-brazed on individual brazing stands. Each craftsman works according to engineering drawings and all the jigs are adjusted to accommodate the specifications of the particular frame. When working with Reynolds 531DB tubing, one worker spot-tacks the main triangle and then another worker brazes it. When brazing Reynolds frames, the temperature is usually from 600 to 7000C. (1,112 to 1,2920F.). All the frames in this area are brazed with Brox, which is the French equivalent of Sifbronze. The third type of bicycle production at Beaulieu is done in the Prestige frame shop. Created in 1974, this area employs eight craftsmen and a foreman, Raoul Jeand'Heur. Monsieur Jeand'Heur has been working with the quality Peugeot bicycles since 1957. Prior to 1957 he was a teacher at Peugeot's mechanics' school, where he taught skilled trades to workmen in the bicycle and car industry. Today, the Prestige frame shop builds frames for the professional Peugeot team and special customer one-of-a-kind orders. This specialty shop is equipped to build the frame as well as totally assemble all the necessary components to make a complete bicycle. Although this department has the ability to assemble components on the frames, only custom orders are assembled here. The Peugeot team frames are assembled in a special work- shop in Paris."

This is more than a manufacturing policy, it is an engineering philosophy which has grown and matured over more than 75 years. in 1899 the Osterreichische Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft was founded in Vienne, capital city od the Austro-Habsburg monarchy and focal point continental Europe. Under the direction of Paul Daimler began the building of high performance luxury autos, the group's first products to carry the famous Austro Daimler marque of the golden bow and arrow. Many of Europe's glittering nobility were among the company's first customers. in 1912, a brilliant young Austrian designer named Ferdinand Porsche joined the team at Austro Daimler as chief designer. This was the same engineering genius who later went on to create the Volkswagen Beetle and the Porsche spots car. Under Porsche's design leadership, Austro Daimler grew to international significance as a builder of high performance cars. in 1922, Porsche's Austro Daimler racing car Sascha won a sensational double victory in the grueling seven day Targa Florio. It was during this time that the young group developed the philosophy of dedication to engineering that has never varied. (source: Austro Daimler brochure)"
