Update

velospace has been online since January 2006

Hitting 1,000 bikes (and 1,500 users and 6,000 friend connections) is a major milestone. THANK YOU to each and every one of you for helping velospace reach this point! Its hard to believe that a small project I started over Christmas break at the end of 2005 would grow and mature into this amazing community of bike enthusiasts.

velospace will continue to grow and change as the community gets larger. More features, more bikes, more merchandise, more of the stuff that makes this place fun to visit.

I put together some graphs showing the current state of things from a few perspective. The information used in the graphs is from early November, 2006.

First: Percentage of bikes by tag

Percentage of bikes by tag

Fixed gears and track bikes make up the majority of bikes on velospace. This is mostly because the site was first put infront of bike riders from these groups. Also, users can tag bikes with multiple tags explaining the overlap between track bikes and fixed gears. It is great to see some diversity in the type of bikes on the site with 13% road bikes, 8% commuter bikes and 4% mountain bikes. I am hoping to increase the visibility of velospace with riders from these groups in the next few months.

Second: Percentage of users logged in the past six months

Percentage of users logged in the past six months

This stat measures the percentage of all users that have logged in atleast once in the past six months. Its a handy way of seeing how many people continue to use the site after signing up initially. 91%+ is great - that means more than nine out of ten registered users continue to be active after registering for the site.

Third: Percentage of users who uploaded atleast one bike

Percentage of users who uploaded atleast one bike

Of all the stats on the site this one is the most important to me - having seven out of ten users upload atleast one bike is awesome. velospace is successful because people like you use it. I hope this percentage gets higher as time goes on, the more bikes the stronger the community!

Fourth: Percentage of users who have commented

Percentage of users who have commented

This is another important stat because it measures how many people leave comments on bikes. Over 95% of velospace users have left feedback on one another's bikes. This indicates that everyone is excited to swap stories, give praise, and ask questions about our common passion - bikes.
