keep the frame as is

I remember seeing that bike on ebay. You must have paid a little fortune for that bike... it's incredible nonetheless! I don't think you should repaint it either.

ps: isn't that frame a little too big for you by any chance?

Merckx

yes i bought it from ebay... and yes it is one size bigger than what i would normally ride on my road bike. I ride a 55ctc but this bike is 56ctc. I think it is still ok..i guess. But i always wanted a Merckx bike that is why i thought of painting it. Anyway thanks for your advice..much appreciated.

If you paint this, I'll

If you paint this, I'll jump.

Yes.. everyone is telling me

Yes.. everyone is telling me not to!!! mmm...still thinking no need to rush..

My best advice is to keep

My best advice is to keep searching till you find an authentic frame, then build it up with period parts.
Until then, bask in the glory of this amazing frame, hopefully built up with fitting parts.

Either way, it'll be an amazing bicycle.

I disagree!!

I say strip it, let it rust ,clearcoat it,then flatblack it,weld some cable guides and a derailleur hanger on it and for god's sake drill that fork for a brake or better yet just get rid of that stupid fork and put one of those real nice forte carbon (threadless of course) forks on it.

mmmm....interesting idea...y

mmmm....interesting idea...y didn't i think of that????

cuz

I'm hellza shmart.

Molteni.

The original Eddy Merckx (Colnago) hour record bike was in display for many years at the Montreal Olympic velodrome until 1986. The bike belongs to the Montreal 1974 World Championship organizer. If you want to do an exact Molteni replica find yourself a Colnago super pista from the 80's and painted Molteni orange. Personally your Merckx is a basic De Rosa track bike and will never look right in Molteni color scheme because of the lug work and fork crown. Also the original Merckx hour bike had 24 holes large flange hubs with very light Clement seta's.
My .2 cents.

Thanks for your advice...

Thanks for your advice...

Molteni.

I forgot to mention the original Merckx hour bike was in Columbus PL "Pista Light" tubes. If I'm not mistaken the only production track bike using PL tubes were high end pista Bianchi's in the mid 80's. Your best bet for your Merckx frame is to dress it up in C-Record and to make it really fancy and original use C-Record low flange track hubs with Vittoria pista gold anodized tubs rims if you can find them. They are much harder to find than the sheriff hubs and just has nice and valuable. Cheers!

Newton

Yo..btw when are we going to Newton to eat???

Newtown..

If your referring to Jacques Villeneuve restaurant it's Newtown not Newton. Newtown means Villeneuve in French.

Newton circus??????????

Ah! I see what you mean! I prefer to go to Paya Lebar Hawker center for some chili Shrilanka crabs or Lavender courts for a nice BBQ red snapper. Pongo would be nice if it's still there. Not bad for a fellow from Montreal? I know my way around your world, spend a lot of time in Singapore. Cheers!

yes i can see that... but do

yes i can see that... but do let me know when you get to come over again.. i am sure we will have lots to talk about.. and of cause lots to eat!!!

wow... thanks!!! Have you

wow... thanks!!! Have you seen the real thing before???

Molteni.

I use to see it in the winter all the time at the MTL velodrome until 86 when the city of MTL decided to dismantle the track to make space for a Biodome. The bike is still in MTL somewhere. I drooled for years over that bike.

Decals

Hey.. i have just updated the images with the decals i got, do you think they are right?

Decals.

If you got the decals from Greg Softley DownUnder they are right. I'm begging you don't spray your Merckx, wait till you find a track Colnago frame from the late 70's or early 80's and get yourself a Super Record track group "TI axle/alloy cups with TI axle pista pedals, 24 holes SR high flange hubs with Fiamme yellow labels rims and a nice pair of track Seta's" if you want to be exact with your replica. It might take you sometime to find the parts but will be well worth it and a nice Sunday ride. Spend your money wisely. It took me a over year to find a Campy NJS group in C and I'm still not ready for my built. Be patient!

thanks... i think i will

thanks... i think i will take your advice, but do you think i should use a drop bar, bull horn or riser???
