forget, but I think 16/42

This was my Kalavinka "Street Tracker" built with Kasei tubing and upon my request, Akio Tanabe's first ever set of stainless steel track drops. The color is from a 1978 Mazda RX-7 and I requested it of Akio by it's Japanese market name of "Savanna RX-7". I built the bike up with mostly NJS parts. Although I had the fork drilled for a brake, I rode mainly on an enclosed bike racing course (not a velodrome) so I didn't need one. *You might have seen this same bike on "DerekRI's" page, the person I sold it to.* I loved this project and had all intentions of keeping it but as is often the case, too many bikes and only one to ride at a time...I also felt it wasn't any different than a great 'classic' 70's road bike like my old DeRosa, (and in fairness to Akio, this is his street model, not a keirin bike) and the anxiety of having something happen to it bike just made riding it an exercise in caution. Akio is a fantastic artisan and a bargain among the heady world of NJS builders! I designed the entire bike and color scheme and could do the same for your project, too...

Kalavinka Color - Savanna RX-7

When I picked this color, I recalled the first Mazda RX-7's to be sold in the US when I was a kid in '77. I knew that Akio would know which color I was asking for if I mentioned the Japanese market model name/color for the RX-7, which they called the "Savanna", just as Datsun/Nissan called the 240Z the "Fairlady". I'm guessing that the Japanese translations didn't work for us in english or they were just more fanciful about their car names?
