new whip

Bike tags: Fixed gear | chain whip single speed tool
Length of 3/16" steel
Two pieces of leftover oak held down with screw-together rivets
Hunk of well-used SRAM chain. Went from Boston to Montreal and back, and is now removing cogs at a workshop near you.
As low as you wanna go.

Thought about buying a chain whip, but decided to make one myself. Works just fine, though the shaft is a bit flexy side to side. Will try to find some forged something at some point. Behind the chain whip to the right is my box of metallic bits and pieces (brass, steel, aluminum); to the left is a vintage wind-up bird, which is pecking around for flecks of metal.
