Magic gear of 38/18

I bought this bike new in '91 and it has basically sat since about 1995. I decided to turn it into a boardwalk bomber and stripped off all the old paint and clearcoated the bare aluminum. True to bomber form, I threw on some Bontrager fat slicks, some Nitto old school bars and got rid of all the excess shifet mechanisms. Because the frame has vertical dropouts, I determined the "magic gear" of 38/18 that would allow me to run w/o an ugly chain tensioner and still pedal easily. This has become my favorite cruiser...it rolls over everything and is light to boot!

Wow. Cool looking bike.
The weird part is that I have the exact same year/model that I also stripped down to bare aluminum (the blue fade paint was looking a little ragged).
Didn't go single speed with mine but yours looks so clean I may have to consider it.

cool bike

Was this m500 because I had one self and it was fantastic, so lite and fast until some sod nicked it. I've just decided to track one down and buy it. So if any body noes of a 1991 20in m500 connondale I would be very greatful to hear from you. p.s. I no it's long shot.

this bike was indeed the m500. It really has some retro look around it. I like it! Portable dog fence

Thats just too-cool!

A FAT tire flyer if there ever was one!!

Roll a fattie

Hey Fatty,
You out-fatted me with those Bontrager tires. Large girth. Are they over-heavy like Hookworms?

The new bars look sweet!

I don't know why this bike captures me
the way it does, maybe the simplicity,
it just drips coolness...

Those tires kick major *ss!
