1982 / 1983 Hutch Pro-Racer

Shimano DX pedals, blue

This is actually my uncle's bike, but I'm restoring it to it's natural glory. Or something. Eventually it will have a new paint job worthy of the BSNYC Seal of Disapproval.
As you can see, it looks like crap.

Go directly to www.bmxmuseum.com. That Hutch is actually pretty collectible, and there's lots of tips on that site about oldschool BMX restoration.

You're going to...

repaint an original Hutch?

I don't know much about BMX

I don't know much about BMX bikes... and no, my grandma already yelled at me. So I'm just going to get off as much rust as I can.

solid....

idea - it doesn't look like crap, that's called character. I heard aluminum foil wadded up works well for taking rust off chrome. God luck and have fun with it!

got old campy-pedals last week

they were completely red & brown and so i cleaned them with http://www.thomann.de/gb/search_dir.html?sw=metarex&x=0&y=0
it took me about an hour each, but your frame does not look as bad as the pedals did.
metarex is great stuff! dunno if you can get this in the u.s.?

I bought some "blue magic"

I bought some "blue magic" which I think is similar maybe? It's for chrome. It got out some of the rust but the inside of the handlebars are still rusted. It's slow right now because I can't take it apart to clean each piece.
