Campy record C 1975

Campy Record C 75

about 46 x 13

This actually runs as a fixie, 'coz the freewheel on the six speed campy is seized. The poorman's alternative to the track hub... 1910 approx, no brakes worth mentionning, the front sidepull added later has the pads at the very bottom of the slots to reach the 700 rims, originally old style 28's ridged. When you brake, the calipers judder so much it feels dangerous. I threw on the modern wheels with 8 bar sewups and blew it down a straight. Let me tell you, frame geometry in 1900's wasn't designed for those wheels or speed, and it all got very, very hairy. Good experience all the same. I was lucky to get away with using a lot of road, not eating a load of macadam.

me too !!!

Actually, I saw one come up on ebay a few months ago. Although as a rule I refuse to buy from the monkeys who destroy machines just for a badge, I went for it for once. Got sniped at the last minute...

gorgeous

That head tube badge is total hotness. The kind of artistry that's sadly been lost in the century since it was made. Makes me want to incorporate something similar into my bike.

Easy to find

I agree, I love that badge. The sad thing is, there is a big ebay market (log into ebay France and enter "Plaque velo" into the search box) so bikes like this one are having their badges pulled off with bent screwdrivers in their thousands, the badge goes 5-25 euros on ebay, and the bike gets scrapped. You wouldn't believe the 20's racers I've pulled from the scapyard, though often I get there too late and they're crushed and bent in two. Otherwise, the trick is: don't polish it blinding shiney, take time and leave some patina on it !!!!
