Frameset built by 3Rensho apprentice Makino-san in 1987.
Wafer-thin lugs with lots of hand-painted cut-outs.
Smaller gauge tubing is flexy yet rides tight with lots of feedback from the frame.
For the wheels, I tried something different: Low profile MTB rims, which are non-machined for use with disc brakes. Since I ride brakeless I thought this would be an interesting idea. I really like them.
The TUFO tires are the best I've found for fix riding. I'm a big gaijin and find that conventional tire tubes leak and flat too often. So I tried the tubeless clinchers, which are sewn like tubeless tires but fit on a clincher bead. I've put 900 miles on this set without a flat and they hold pressure very well. Thought I would mention this experience for the benefit of others who are frustrated by tire issues.
Ride well!
