Red Italian Olmo Giro steel frame racing bike. Plenty of Campag hardware on it - hubs, brake levers, brake calipers, seatpost, cranks, derailleurs. Used to run on tubulars but bought a nice set of clincher wheels for it (Mavic Open Pro rims on vintage Campag Record high flange hubs). Upgraded orginal steel forks to carbon - keep buying stuff for this bike, gotta stop.

Slick. How old is the frame?

How old is the frame?

I don't really know how old the frame is - early to mid-90s maybe. Anybody else know? I like the red colour and the frame's Italian - always a good combination!

Great Bike!

Is it as fast as it looks?

Have you ridden it much with the 7-speed block on the Record hub? Did it need a longer axle?

I got a 7-speed freewheel for my low flange Record hubs, but then I read something by Jobst Brandt about people breaking axles with 6-speed, which is same width as 7. Of course he's a big guy and he breaks cranks and all sorts of stuff. I stuck with 5-speed, and now I've got an ultra 6 freewheel (same width as normal 5-speed), but I haven't put it on yet.

Fast as it looks?

I'd say it's pretty fast - definitely the fastest bike in my bike shed at the moment. Probably depends more on the rider than the bike, though if you were serious about cycling, it's not the sort of bike you'd race in competition. But steel frame bikes look better than modern carbon fibre bikes!

The 7-speed block came with the clincher wheels I bought for it. The bike originally had tubular wheels with a 6-speed block and I didn't notice any difference in axle length between the two. I've ridden both sets of wheels over some pretty crappy roads and I've had no problems with the rear axle so far (touch wood).

I did break a rear axle on my other bike, but the drop outs are quite far apart so a long axle with spacers are needed which might have something to do with it - I'm not going to put the blame on my skill as a cyclist (or lack of it).

Wow

I REALLY love this bike...
