It's my first fixie bike and I'm glad I kept the front brake, especially with the platform pedals. Gearing seems good with the 52/19 combo for around town. Very comfortable geometry with a nice, smooth ride.

I picked up the bike in

I picked up the bike in original form earlier this summer for 0. You can see the "before" pictures from my velospace page. Purchased a new wheelset, BB, bullhorns, brake lever, cog, stem, etc... so I probably have around 0 into it altogether including the bike price. If you watch your budget and take your time looking around for parts (cut your own bars, start with a cheap base bike, reuse as much as possible) you could do it for a lot cheaper. No regrets here though, it's a fantastic bike and tons of fun.

Your bike looks real nice.

I just answered my own question from the info above except I don't see the brand of rear hub...

I just picked up a gran tourer SE. Can you tell me what size/make BB and rear hub you used (130mm)? Also, 700c tires fit just fine? This will be my second fixie, first build.
