This bike was built around a rattlecan sprayed frameset purchased on eBay, and sent to Waterford Precision Cycles for a period correct repaint. Most of the components were purchased on eBay. Weight as shown is 20.6 pounds.

People who friended this bike the fumingator, achtundzwanzig, Splined, mpnielsen, incredibleting, mafffoster, richrd stinks, tomthetank, axe_somebody, norskagent, Zephyrus, old crow, quicksilvermessengerservice, campystamp, juntif, velocepedestrian, Stelvio, per.k, ryuj1n

I commend you on the restoration

Waterford was a good choice. At least you know what you need to make it totally period correct. The amount of funds necessary for a full restoration are indeed ridiculously large. Be kind to that frame.

gorgeous!

looks great love the paramounts!

That is a beauty! I hope it

That is a beauty! I hope it is going to get ridden again and won't be solely a mantle piece.

It will be ridden!

I'll be riding it regularly at Hellyer Park velodrome in San Jose as soon as it's finished.

Crankset

I dont think the crankset is correct. Looks good but wouldnt it have been cottered in 1940. A Chater Lea would look superb or even a cottered Campagnolo would look super.

Lovely machine by the way.

Kindest regards

Crankset

Thanks!

The original early Schwinn Paramount cranksets were indeed cottered, but they are extremely rare and the prices are in the stratosphere. Since I bought the bike as a frameset, rather than spend years looking for the correct components I decided to build it up with sixties/seventies vintage Campy bits so I could enjoy riding it now instead of waiting until I could collect the correct components. A side benefit is that the Campy aluminum alloy crankset is significantly lighter than the original chromoly crankset.

The original crankset catalog page is at

awesome

frame is great looking, but take some links out so you're not hanging at the end of the track ends.

Chain length

Thanks. Yep, there's still lots of work to do. Basically, I assembled everything for photos, but there's still lots of tweaking to do (including shortening the chain).
