Butted steel (further details unknown), reinforced by electrical and reflective tape, ribbons, stickers and permanent ink
Not sure what the bars are, but they're narrow and that's a very fine layer of cork tape
The fork is beautifully springy steel, from the era when they still made them that way :) The headset is Indexed :(
A Weinmann found in someone's front yard after the previous one taco'd. Decorative valve cap. Vittoria Randonneur 38mms.

Recent Alivio 22/32/42, generic Shimano. Original crankset was really lovely, but had a very strange BCD, rings unreplaceable.

This is the invincible creature named Penelope that I ride around Melbourne, when I'm back there. Tens of thousands of kilometers, on top of what was clocked by the original owner. Judging by the shifters, the bike dates from the early 80s, back when Malvern Star still made real bicycles.
