A craigslist find, I was lucky it was all stock, and a 9.8/10 for condition. Could not be happier with it, Chicago made March 25 1987. How sick a matte black bike, from teh factory, with black rims?!

Late 80's Schwinn bikes - The end of the good!

Here... here, I couldn't agree more!

I, not too long ago, picked up a Schwinn 974 and I'm so stoked that I did!!! The 974 was licensed from Gary Klein, he even came down to Greenville, MS and taught the builders how to tig weld oversized 5000 series aluminum tubing. The American made Schwinn bike lines in this era were really great, the 434, 564, 754, and especially the top-of-the-line 974! Schwinn pushed hard to reclaim a place in the bike market, I'm glad they did! They really slipped alot in quality in the 70's. as did so many other "old" American companies.

Take for instance, Gibson and Fender guitars, I'm a guitar player from Fullerton. I recall the layoffs under CBS Music and the Fender "factory" shutting down (after the employees bought the company back) so they could revamp and rebuild the name. People forget that these companies nearly went under, putting out lousy products and surviving on namesake. Hell, I bought a Schwinn Homegrown (Bass Boat Red) when I heard Schwinn had bought Yeti and Yeti was building a few bike line. It was a Durango, CO Yeti built Schwinn and it was awesome! Thankfully, the employees bought Yeti back and Yeti is now as strong as ever! I wish something glorious could happen for Schwinn, it's an American icon, too bad today's Schwinns have so little in common with their rich past.

Sorry, let me get off my soapbox, awesome find! Congrats! There can't be that many mint condition bikes popping up in that frame size too often... nice snag!

Enjoy!

p.s. So, now what are you going to do with your Ritchey? In case I need to start saving .00.

Very nice!

Nice Schwinn. I have a similar high end 80s Schwinn. These are great bikes and really good deals because most people don't realize how special they are.
