Purple Rain
1965 Schwinn Varsity (electro-forgin' heavy)
Original drops and aluminum stem (doesn't really help the weight)
you know
bad... sprint marked hubs
worse... sprint marked hubs (35 spoke)
Cool spint star pattern chainring
Believe it or not the saddle is original
40/16
Not the most common varsity. It also had sprint (huret) downtube shifters and really cool aluminum axel wingnuts. I'll bet you couldn't guess the back ones stripped on me. Yes I am using the 5-speed freewheel, but what ever $$$. All the money went into my green one. Otherwise took off about every thing but the rear brake; it's my rain snow bike.
I put Hundreds and Hundreds of miles on this bike before I knew any better. .50 at the thriftstore it was my gateway drug.
I was loaning this junkyard trash to my friend for a bar crawl. On our way home I detoured us to the local high school so we could race around the running track. Well on the back strech there was no light on the course and we could barely make out the lanes. Out of no where an aluminum bench was layed out perpendicular to the lanes and was taking up the whole track. I was in the lead and narrowly got around and not soon after I heard a horrible crash! The fork was bent back to the frame and my friend got to go to the ER for stiches in his forehead.
