So I put the frame up on eBay, but my reserve price wasn't met. I admit it was pretty high... But I don't want to let this baby go! I had wanted to sell it to raise money, so I can move, but I might just keep it. I like it too much! :D

you never forget your first

this well preserved example takes me w-a-a-a-y back. my father bought me this exact bike (to include color scheme) to help me transition from bmx racing to "junior" road racing.

since then, i've gone through countless bikes(far more sophisticated) and transitioned from road racing(cat 2) to track racing(slug - but improving). however, i'll never forget the excitement i felt when my father bought me that centurion ironman.

thanks for memories.

Awesome.

It's nice to know this was also your first, in a way. I first saw this bike in an old book I found in my library titled How To Choose A Performace Bicycle (John Lehrer). Seeing it then I would've never thought I'd actually own one!

Anyway, it was with the help of this book and a few others that I really got into cycling and came to appreciate the unique beauty of lugged steel frames. I searched on eBay for a similar bicycle, won a mid-eighties Schwinn Le Tour, that fell through, and a few months later I found this Ironman and fortunately everything went well.

I learned to ride on this bike—I had never ridden before, if you can believe it. This was about two years ago, I was nineteen then I think...

Anyway, I'm getting ready to sell it now since I will be moving and could use the money to help me get started over there. It took me a while to make up my mind, this being my first bicycle—but it just has to be. :'(

I bought a Univega Gran Premio frameset recently though, in a nice champagne color with a chromed fork crown, that I will be building up later on this year as a fixed conversion to get me around and to get rid of the pounds!

Whatever happened to your "Dave Scott"?

Thanks so much for your comment.

Seb.
