Old XT's & new silver chain

21 tooth cog in back?

This was given to me by my father in law. Every thing is original in these pics except the grips, pedals, chain, brake pads, tires & tubes, all of which I still have.
I added the splash guard, bell & a larger cog in back so it would be geared a bit lower.

This one for sure has a lot of stories with it. I like what it looks.

Lift the saddle and give the left pedal a spin to count how many turns it runs before a complete stop of the rear wheel. I got a 70's bike, Precision PR6006 and got 170 turns! In contrast, the new ones I tested in the stores recently are only between 16 and 120 turns...

What is the number of turns for this one?

Since I completely disassembled the planetary gears and all the bearing races for cleaning and relubrication, would the number for turns really tell me anything I didn’t learn from its overhaul inspection?

Actually with the new larger pads it’s not too bad, though wet steel rims were never a good brakeing service.
I wish KoolStop made some replacement pads for it!
