Cool bikes. Why were they built in the basement of a sewing machine company? What type of activities were they keeping confidential?

All activities around the

All activities around the manufacturing of special purpose bikes and componets (e.g. track and time trial, brakes , rims tires and spokes) was kept as confidential as possible. I belive that this has something to do protect the achievements they made in technology as long as possible. It was not known that they made 29" tubular tires for the time trail rear wheels to compensate partly the higher rolling resistance of the 24" and 26" front wheels and tires matching the rim width from 18mm till 22mm to reduce dead water turbulence and drag?

Please consider that a population of 17 million people got in total 94 Olympic medals in the summer Olympic 1976 in Montreal compare to 125 of the USSR and 95 of the USA.

Beside Technology the most kept secret was defiantly the athlete selection process and the medical support and treatments.
