THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS. Woody Guthrie painted this on his guitar and he sang "This land was made for you and me." I like to sing this paraphrased version of it when I am on the trail.

When I was riding my mountain bike I

Saw a sign that said "No Bicycles"

But on the other side it did say nothing

Now that land was made for you and me!

Many years ago the well-organized and well-connected Sierra Club lobbied to make it okay for them to hike and ride their horses without having those pesky mountain bikers to watch out for. How many of you trail riders would trade time doing trail maintenence for access to those same trails? TRAIL ACCESS NOW!

Don't know much about

Don't know much about mountain bikes but I do know about Guthrie and I say right on.
Chris Bacheldor wrote a book called "U.S!" about the multiple deaths and resurrections of Upton Sinclair. Sinclair's estranged son, who's a folk singer, carved "This Machine Exhumes Dead Radicals" into his guitar. Always makes me smile big.

have you read bound for glory?

Love Dust Bowl Ballads.

Love Dust Bowl Ballads. Sorry to hear that you can't share trails with the horse crowd. Though I can see it being an issue with trail riders flying past and spooking horses... I suppose you'd have to propose certain times where there would be access for horse riders and certain times for mountain bikers?! Good luck.

I'm willing to share...

...and be courteous, and if I was given access, to help maintain the trails I ride on. I don't do much "flying past" riding fixed on 55 gear inches.

I was dreaming of Phil Ochs last night...
