road triple 36/42/52, 165mm

I built this for my 10 year old son for the 20+ mile bike rides we take. We wanted something a little tougher than the youth road bikes and something that was his own. The mountain crank was replaced with a 165mm road triple and the stem and bars were setup cyclocross style. The drivetrain is 3x7 with friction bar end shifters. Purpose-built wheels with an 8 or 9 speed cassette and indexed shifting may be in the future for this bike.

Does this bike still fit your child?

I'm looking for a bike just like this for my 9 yr old. Has your child grown out of this?

Im doing the same thing

I have a 93 Hardrock Ultra, and im doing the same thing. Old suntour barcons, suntour derailers, stock 7 speed wheelset, fenders etc... Now if I can just get the stuck un-25bb out ill be all set.

hardrock conversion

I'd love to see pics & hear how your conversion goes. I was lucky that all of the bearing parts were in great shape on the bike. It was dirty and scuffed on plastic surfaces, but the paint was great & apparently had not been ridden much. I went into the project fully expecting rebuilding/replacing headsets, hubs & BB

good luck with yours!
