I built this bike for my friend who wanted a better fitting and faster ride than her hand-me-down mountain bike. I started with a stock bike from craigslist and replaced everything but the cranks, BB, headset, stem, and seatpost, and brakes. The wheels were custom laced to surly hubs by my awesome LBS guy who had the 27" rims kicking around. Other parts were used, got on the cheap. It's a sweet, smooth bike which fits her nicely and she loves it! In fact, I'm jealous as I don't have a proper SS roader of my own! I loved this bike because the stock setup was built with quality standard (if heavy) parts, which made conversion easy. The only real trick was that the right rear dropout was not cut all the way back as it was delivered in 10-speed configuration. It took some time w/ a dremmel and careful finishing to get it to match the left side. Final weight is 23.5lbs w/o kit bag and lights.
