This bike build was a project and a half. I found the frame in the basement of my Uncle; it was missing all kinds of parts and looked like it hadn't moved easily in decades. It took at least 14 solid hours of elbow-grease to get the stains of Alabama red clay dirt off the frame as well as to clean up streaks of red paints, rust, and other blems on the frame.
I assembled all the parts from local shops (thanks Revolution Cycles), portland shops, scrounging through parts boxes, & the internet. The custom wheel build was done through LifeCycle. It took forever to get the rims from the factory. Velocity just introduced these rims & they're a special partnership between Velocity & Laek House and are treated to be black under normal circumstances and bright white reflective under direct light. Pretty cool & actually works--as you can see.
This bike is a dream & it's taken a long time to reach fruition. Eventually I'm going to have to replace the headset (and maybe stem too) since it couldn't be 100% restored and thus the bars pull to the right all the time. It's not really that much of a problem except riding no-hands is a pain-infested crash-wish waiting to happen. Other than that, this is my everyday commuter & I always look forward to riding it (pink helmet to match... dorky but safe)!
