I had a black Custom Sport and it was extemely light as an SS (it's still up on VS). Does it have a Champion #5 sticker on the seat tube? If so, it's made with decent Tange tubing. Sadly, I sold mine to buy a Le Champion, but when I did, people came running for it. I think it was a mid-level bike in its day (mine came with alloy Araya rims and Sunour AR dr's) but the frame-work is higher than average.

there is a sticker on the

there is a sticker on the bike but i can't read what number it is. I remember something about the guy who sold it to me saying it was "champion no. 1" but who knows.

If I'm not mistaken...

If I'm not mistaken, the lower the number on Champion tubing, the better, so either way, you're good. I think mine weighed about 19 lbs as an SS. It was nimble and quick but I didn't like the stock brake levers, swapped them out for some hooded Weinmann's. I think I switched to alloy bars and pedals, too. The bike had about 25 miles on it when I got it.

wow

you really need to add a rear brake. unless you go fixed one brake isnt enough for san fran hills. be safe out there.
