Volpone - 2008 Bianchi Pista

I see all sorts of flaming about the stock pista wheels.
Let me testify that mine are fantastic. I've been riding my 2006 Pista on the stock wheels for well over 5,000 miles and they're still as true as any. That includes a short daily commute 4 days a week every week and all sorts of training rides up and down the Napa Valley between 20 and 55 miles with the usual assortment of potholes, highway debris and nasty pavement. I had a set of Phil Wood / Velocity wheels made at my LBS about a year after I got the bike but these wheels have been so good I haven't had to heart to take em off and the "good" wheels are just hanging up in my garage. Just my experience.

A little update: Three days ago I was riding at night around the West Allis area and was looking to my right to check for cars at an upcoming intersection and my front wheel found its way into a drainage grate that the city of Milwaukee so kindly placed in the center of a lane. My tire went in, wedged itself there, and I went flying over the bars into the pavement. Basically the stock wheel is still perfectly true and me... not so much. Suffered a sprained right wrist and a have a severley tattered pair of Levi's and some wicked road rash. Really, I agree neutron, I can't see getting rid of the wheels for anything else right now. The stock tires do wear down pretty quick though. Those I do need to replace.

As of right now (owning the bike for a month) I haven't had any problems with the wheels or hubs.

I picked mine up for 550 at a local bike shop. I don't reside directly in an Urban area so that's probably why it didn't cost as much as it normally would. I have seen them in other areas for around 600 all the way up to 675.

Yeah, I'm planning on putting a Miche Primato Track Group on it.
