Black Bess
58cm old British lugged steel
New, shiny, cheap ass 27 x 1 1/4"
Ancient, once decent, rusted to buggery 27 x 1 1/4"
49/18
My very first fixed gear bike, created for about £0.00 using donor parts from three old bikes that I simply had unused in the shed. The rear wheel was from an ancient racing cycle that had seen better days, but happily included a fixed cog on the opposite side of the hub. I was very lucky in that the frame/cranks just happened to create a perfect chainline with no messing. At some point I'll replace the rear wheel with a shiny one and possibly give it a clean, but I have never ridden such an amazing cycle to date and am scared to tamper with the powerful cosmic forces that were at play during its construction. The bike has cost a total of £12.97 so far, as I treated it to some new handlebar tape, a cheap new tire and an inner tube. Maybe the addition of a decent bell would take the total cost up to a whopping £20.
My wife has christened it Black Bess after Dick Turpin's steed, which I think suits it perfectly.
