I am looking to purchase an older Pinarello SLX and was wondering what the differences are in the Montello and Treviso models? -PL -

In the '85 catalog, the Montello had SLX tubing and the Treviso models had SL tubing.

Great choice! My Montello was the best bike I ever owned! I broke the rear dropout. I have the replacement dropouts. Just too chicken to replace it.... -

Grid - I have seen several Trevisos on the web and some of the sellers say they are SLX. Some catalogs and wikis state they were only SL. One guy told me Trevisos were made in both, but could not give individual years, so imagine my confusion.
Hyde - I have a Lotus SLX and broke a dropout years ago. Had a restorer braze it back in and it has been fine for years. Had a bit of trouble matching paint color but its close enough. -

I have a treviso from 85. I'm pretty sure its SL as I doubt pinarello would put a campy victory group on an SLX frame.

PL, my feeling is that those sellers are mistaken, especially if that's what they were told when they bought them. You probably know this, but if you were to feel inside the end of SLX tubing, you'd feel a groove. SL tubing doesn't have that groove. I don't know of any Trevisos that were made with SLX.
Here's another link from Pinarello's '87 catalog that highlights the differences:
'87 Pinarellos.
and two more from the '89 catalog:
'89 Montello
'89 Treviso -

Grid - Agreed they may be mistaken, which is why I dont want to be taken. People can repaint and add any kind of stickers these days.
Even the bulgier 85 catalogs show what appears to be more than one model Montello. For example, in the photos there appears to be one model with internal brake cable routing and one model with internal routing, even though the verbiage states internal. None of the photos or verbiage indicate internal routing for Treviso. So what I am assuming is that even though bikes have been repainted and regardless of stickers, that if there is internal routing, it almost has to be a Montello. Does that seem like good logic?
