has anybody experience with laceing the spokes to the far eyelet (on the rim you got alternating an eyeylet a bit closer to the one side of the hub flange, then to the other side)...?
i tried it now with a araya boxsection rim (36er)...

    Yes, but whats your question?

You can only do that with rims that are drilled to be laced that way. The holes for the spokes are drilled at an angle.

You're supposed to lace them to the holes on the same side as the hub flange. Depending on the rim, the nipples might even stick out at an angle not making it possible to lace the spokes to the nipple on the opposite side

well, so far it's all right... the nipples are in a line with the spokes (first i feared the spokes would bend after they leave the nipple)... my worries are more like will this cause to much stress to the rim? ...i have no perticular question on that subject... just wondering

Drop the "e", when adding "ing"

But still rims that lace opposite (cross-lace) are designed to do so. Generally, the distance they offset from the center is greater than on a conventionally laced rim. The cross section of the rim is designed specifically to deal with the different stresses that may exist with a cross-laced wheel. They tend to be concave so that the spoke nipple exits perpendicular to the rim section.

I'm sure you can cross-lace any rim, but I doubt it will be stronger or as strong as if it were laced conventionally, or if you were to use a rim specifically designed for cross-lacing.

I look forward to your pics!

had trouble keeping it true... it's now laced normal. i'll try that later with another rim because i think it might be stronger (the spoke hits the rim at a slight wider angle wich should lead to reduced lateral stress), as well as more aerodynamic...
