I just got my frame powder coated silver, the place also offered a clear coat for another 50$, they said they usually just powdercoat it and thats enough. Should I have gotten the clear coat?

I just got the frame of my latest build powder coated,. picked it up yesterday and i had a long extensive chat with the guy about the process i went in thinking I wanted a black powder coat and clear coat over it, he told me that it really wasn't necessary. I ended up going with glossy black, and looks great, but then it also comes down tho the powder coaters experience, I asked before i came by and he told me he's done over a 1000 bike frames. So so sum it all up i think you were right in not getting a clear coat, also clear coats have a tendency to tint yellow when exposed to the sun for periods of time. Hope this was helpful.

Im surprised they even offer a "clear coat" thats more so done by a paint shop, not a powdercoaters . A gloss powdercoat has a clear coat, essentially in the coating . If you get a gloss color, a added clear is not needed.
