As far as light saddles go , which would you say is better for comfort ? The SLR and Arione seem to be the popular choices , and the new bontrager's are pretty cool.

go sit on one at a bike shop and find out. that's the only way you can tell if your body will fit a specific seat. i am sure my butt and your butt are very different and have different needs when it comes to a saddle.
and unless you're wearing cycling shorts, the point of comfort is really mute.

Sad to say, the Rabbi's right. I like the Selle San Marco SKN, but apparently they were selling too good a saddle for $30 because it's become the $90+ Aspide. Or the SLR HOLY SHIT $500 FOR A SADDLE?

Anyway, that's for my ass, not yours.

If you're wearing pants with a seam it the crotch, yeah, it's moot.

I dont how you're coming to the conclusion that any saddle with jeans or street shorts is going to feel terrible. Im not doing the TDF , so im not doing my daily commuting in cycling shirts and jersey . I guess my question was targeted towards people that have been one both , if they prefer one over the other .

i just picked up a slr carbon gel flow today in a trade and while i cant take it for a ride now (due to my defective testicle--for which there is already a thread) it feels nice to just sit on, nicer than the arione i used to own. however only time will tell. the gel flow also has a cock and balls cut out too though, where the normal slr does not.

if you like flat saddles with very little padding either will work for you most likely.

i like my aspide it has some padding but not a lot i just did a century on it a few weeks ago so i guess it has enough

you're daily commuting doesn't need a $100+ saddle. there is a difference between tolerable and comfortable. i can tolerate any number of seats wearing jeans and of the like for a given amount of time.
but when "you're happy with 17 miles" (sorry to bring another forum into this one) then it really doesn't matter what seat you ride. a seat is a seat is a seat till you get out on the open road and go ride for more than an hour at a time. go for 3 hours non-stop in your jeans. then the next day do the same ride in some lycra. then you'll maybe realize the difference between tolerable and comfortable.

You know that cutout in fancy saddles? That's the exact opposite of the seam in a pair of jeans.

... actually, by that logic, it would *slve* the jeans seam issue. So maybe it's great.

From what I've been reading from Bontragers studies, that cutout has negative effects on the riders comfort. You have less surface area causing more pressure spots. From all the reviews I've been reading , the Arione with wing flex seems to be the way to go ,at least for most.
