picked this up for almost nothing- but i am still not sure what to do with it. 84 Schwinn Peloton, 52cm. columbus tubes with cute little hearts on the fork lugs, frame is in great shape, a few paint chips, but no real damage. Beautiful superbe pro gruppo. Original wheelset (ARAYA aero 1 on superbe pro) and sugino aero mighty crank/BB. I would probably just throw some tires on this and ride it- but i already have a geared roadie i like. I have been singlespeeding on dirt for years, and really like the idea of converting this schwinn. so im asking the board for a little help; I know next to nothing about classic roadie or hipster singlespeed stuff, so im not sure what an appropriate SS/Fix wheelset for this frame would be. or is fixing this thing putting lipstick on a pig?

and ive read enough complaints about killing classic bikes, so if the thought of me knocking off the bikes braze-ons makes you sick to your stomach, maybe you better make me an offer -and quick :)

If you are looking to make some money off of it, I can't help you there, since I know nothing about old bike prices. I do however, feel that you should just ride it. It's a bike, it was built to be ridden. So I'd go conversion with it, but that's just me. Though, from what I hear, the older, higher end Schwinns are fairly poular, so I'd check around first.

if you have way too much money lying around, you could take it to a frame builder, who could add on some for trackends and remove all of the brazing.
I'd recommend the basic hipster wheelset, formula to deep V. Or if you want more low profile, cxp33's are a little bit more, but worth it.
Phil wood hubs are really really reallyreallyreally nice (i don't think i should even have to state this.)
you could also retrofit the frame with new, sexier parts. Like Chris King hubs.

old geared road bikes are sexy.

    Seriously
WHY in the F**K would you do that to a frame .
its very tiring to see perfectly built bicycles ripped apart to make them something they arent built for .
if you want a fixed gear get a track frame . please STOP the non sense .
you wouldnt take a ferarri and put a 1600 cc motor from a volkswagen in it or vice versa .
doesnt make any sense , so why do it to a Lovely bike .

get a track frame and leave the rest alone!
