im thinking this guy is intending to make the bike seem more valuable. there is no way any one has payed 2000 dollars for a pake.
  1.
You could build that bike for than 1k easy, with all brand new parts. Maybe he got scammed or he just doesnt know what he is talking about...
  2.
It's an attractive bike. I think he was charged for customization, not just parts.

If someone builds you something, you pay them for their efforts. That's how people make money. Then they can eat food.

If you don't want to pay that much, don't. That's part of the same system.
  3.
i love that he said the frame material is aluminum when it is clearly stated EVERYWHERE else that it is generic 4130 Cro-Mo

There is no way that someone would say "Okay, thats a fair price" to someone who tells them that they will "custom" (used VERY loosely) build their bike up for $2300. And if thats the case, count me in for quitting my day job and "custom" building peoples fixed gears.

    There are two explanations here:
    1. The seller is an idiot and got scammed by Orange 20
    2. He is hoping someone out there is crazy enough to not see through the BS

i usually go into orange20 every time go to la. i think i would be really hardpressed to say that kyle or jim or anyone there would scam anyone. they are some of the nicest dudes i've ever encountered. o20 charges a pretty fair price and that bike couldn't of cost him that much.

Ah, well, lying, like a wailing jet pilot, isn't kosher.

If you price all the parts up from the prices on the orange bikes website, and allow extra money for things like pedals, which look like decent ones, handlebars $70 (nitto?) you could get the cost of the bike to around $1850 and then it would be around $500 to put the bike together, which sounds like a lot but is feasible.
I think that you have to look at the parts that the bike has been built with to work out where the money has gone, people get a bit carried away sometimes with putting a fixed gear machine together, wanting the coolest bike, why hes used a cheap frame i dont understand, id put more money in to the frame, but it depends on your way of thinking and probably knowledge of what different frames ride like.
Its a good looking bike, you have to give him that, although not sure if id of gone for the dayglo orange, but very hipster.
  7.
You see how it didn't sell? That's the market talking. The market's not always right, but Ebay is an awfully good indicator of the value of an item.

Funny, I met a girl last weekend and she told me she'd spent €1600 on a pake, I was a little surprised to be honest.....
