    Apparently from the "I'm a hater today" forum, your bike is worth $200 bucks no matter what you put on it.

    I have to agree, depending on whats on it, no matter what, its still a schwinn varsity. better off parting it out.

    I guessing if you part it out, you'll probably get more for the parts. Those wheels are pretty boss.

    Well, you know, we've been down this road before.. The question is not what it's worth, it's what is it worth to you? Can you get a better riding or equal riding bike for what you're willing to part with it for? If you enjoy the ride and it does what you want, then it's worth infinitesimally more than if you are dissatisfied with it. You can't look at it's worth through someone else's eyes. This is especially true when the bike is an older frame. Now as far as the value, that's a different story all together.

    well put. I kept this in mind when building my bike. I spray painted it, slapped flashy, cheap Origin8 3pc. crank with a bb conversion on it, and called it a day. It rides just fine for me and it will probably hang around for a bit. That said (as I mentioned in the other thread) I don't expect much out of it when it comes time for me to graduate to something else.

    Don't really matter what it's worth. I'm gonna give you some advice and it counts.
    When it comes to selling things you've put together and used a good bit the best, and I mean the BEST thing you can do is sell it for a really good price to someone who's gonna appreciate the shit out of it.
    You've already spent the money. It's gone. The bike is only worth what you believe it to be worth and nothing more. This was never a financial investment for you, it was always just a bike to have fun on. When your fun runs out it's time to get that fun in between someone else's legs.
    If you want a good guideline for fair pricing used shit just take what you put into it and knock a big ass chunk off that number. There's fair.

    I don't know what I'm talkin. Whether it's karma or metaphysical balance or just plain old good goddamn vibes it works. I've sold more shit for about half the price other people do and somehow I've always ended up getting awesome stuff for free or super cheap. I've seen it happen a hundred times.

    If you don't want your bike anymore figure out what you paid to put it together, knock a good bit off of that, find someone cool who's your height and wants a bike, hook 'em up, and just wait a minute cause rad shit like that'll happen to you too.

    I'd say its worth about half of whatever a kilo tt costs nowadays. Thats my answer for every conversion bike that isnt built around a frame thats too nice to have never been converted to begin with.

    You might want to consider transferring some of your parts over to a new frame. Sometimes you are better off recycling, sometimes its better to start over. Its hard to say because I dont know what your bank account or parts bin looks like.

    Thank you for saying that, I've had guys rip on me for having a Schwinn and I knew they just had to be dissn' just cause. My one motivator when building my varsity was a buddy of mine from a local bike shop who loves steel frames and I'm glad I listened to him. I've really thought that the reason people rip on 'gas pipe' bikes is simply b/c they're not some swanky track frame with an aerospoke...

    There's the fashion/snob thing, sure. But that's not the only issue; I think there are a lot of people who don't really think of bikes as a form of transportation, and so dismiss bikes such as yours, which are most adept for just that purpose.

    For the last few years, I've tracked all my rides through MapMyRide, mostly for health reasons; I want to know how much mileage I'm getting in, so I can assess the results I'm getting. The interface is clearly designed for the weekend warrior types, who ride long miles a few times a week exclusively for exercise, rather than people like me who routinely run up 10 miles a day in short trips as we work our way through our day. I think it's a case of not appreciating that, for many people, a bike is their primary mode of transportation. The mileage isn't going to be one extended trip, but a lot of little trips that form a loop from start to endpoint.

    For that kind of riding, a cheapster steel bike is ideal. Even though I ride a number of bikes around during the day (and I've finally loosened up enough to lock up pricy builds), when I lock up a bike at night, it's always the pack mule - a 1993 Marin Bobcat Trail with the stick-on letters peeling off. Looks terrible, built like a tank, and it's exactly the bike I can lock up and walk away from without fidgeting all evening.
